Today’s exclusive piece of concept art from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra brings you a look at an early design of the film’s Delta 6 Accelerator Suits – the mechanized armor that allows G.I. Joe to “run faster, jump higher and hit harder” than any of their enemies. I think it’s the crimson visor that makes this one of my favorite concept sketches from the film – it give the armor the look and feel of a futuristic spacesuit. Given that the armor allows its wearer to experience the world in an entirely new way, accelerating them so far beyond the normal limits of human endurance that even city streets would seem like a strange and different world, I think it’s a very cool design concept that ultimately got left by the wayside. I think the Accelerator Suits are a very cool idea. I had a similar one myself years ago, so it’ll be cool to see them in action on the big screen. I guess great minds think alike.
