TvZ – Round 2

TvZ – Round 2

There’s been a ton of interest in last week’s post about whether Stephen’s next movie should be G.I. Joe 2 or an original adaptation of Tarzan.  With a whopping 93% of commenters asking for a sequel to The Rise of Cobra, it’s definitely clear that there’s a lot of love out there for Duke, Ripcord, Snake Eyes and the rest of the JOEs.  As for you Tarzan fans out there, keep fighting the good fight – Stephen’s take on the classic character promises to reinvigorate the legend of Greystoke in ways you can’t even imagine.   While it will be at least a few months before there’s an official announcement either way, it’s definitely great to know there’s so much anticipation for the next movie.  Check back for updates as they happen!

I look forward to anything Stephen does. He could direct a movie about some guy reading the phone book and it would be the most entertaining movie of the year. :)

  2. Max says:

Of course , we want TARZAN !!!!!

  3. QBC says:

I still want G.I. Joe 2. Glad to see it’s doing well. :-D

  4. Ross says:

GI JOE 2!!!!!! It just HAS to be.

Im a lifelong fan of Joe and I thought Stephen did an outstanding job with it – but even more than the first movie Im super excited for the sequel…its set up perfectly – all the characters are in place – the world is established – its GOOD TO GO!

p.s.I recently heard a rumor that Stephen has abandoned GI JOE 2 altogether…SAY IT AINT SO!

  5. Avi says:

G.I. Joe 2. Hope it happens first!

  6. Kad says:

Tarzan style king kong peter jackson.
With fighting animals, great apes, dirty jungle, and a lot of action …

  7. Michael24 says:

Ross – I doubt it. In all the interviews I’ve seen, Stephen has expressed great enthusiasm for continuing with the franchise and saying he’d start work on G.I. JOE 2 in September if he could. I’m sure the “rumor” (which I haven’t heard) of him leaving was just started by some vengeful fanboy who was displeased with the film.

  8. Joanna says:

Second that, Michael…there’s that other layer in some of his other films that haters fail to see…or maybe they can’t believe he’s so enthusiastic about making films.

    Anyway, I think I’m backing “G.I. JOE 2″.

  9. Euan says:

    Tarzan!!!!! Modern Tarzan please

  10. Joachim says:

Just noticed the sequel is officially confirmed by Hasbro in their Q&A session. According to a article about the actor playing Storm Shadow, shooting for the sequel will start this year.
Exciting stuff. Is Stephen directing again?

  11. Christine says:

    President Zartan!
Can we get his sexy sister Vice President Zarana?

A round of applause is due for the film following the great tradition of having strong women characters in G.I.Joe. Here’s what the writer of Joe’s comics stated.

Larry Hama: It seems the mainstream comics industry abandoned the girl market over 30 years ago. There used to be really terrific comics that girls wanted to buy, like Little Lulu and the classic Archie stuff. How could an industry be so stupid as to write off 50% of their potential market?? I used to get letters from girls during the RAH run. They said they read the G.I. Joe comics because their brothers bought them, and they liked the fact that female members of the team were treated just the same as the guys and were equally effective, unlike many female comics characters at the time who spent a great deal of their time either taking showers or walking around with their palms nailed to their foreheads.

    Tarzan!

  13. Alex lahti says:

I finished watching the mummy ii and have seen the other two mummy 1 and 3 and want to make a suggestion on the next if ever a mummy movie that takes part in the bermuda triangle so far every mummy has been incredible can be new and full of danger

  14. Stephen Sommers is a dream for fans of genre films. His filmography speaks for itself, it starts off with a couple of well crafted Disney films revisiting classics such as Tom Sawyer (Huck Finn) and Mowgli’s Jungle Book, then made the coolest B.movie ever with Deep Rising with an ending that called for a sequel which never saw the light. Then came the moment of truth with the adventures of Rick O’Connell and his re-imagining of Universal Classic Monsters starting with “The Mummy”, then “Frankenstein”, “Dracula”, “The Brides”, “The Wolfman” and “Van Helsing” ALL IN ONE !! and finally gave us, kids of the 80’s, the coolest ride of summer 2009 with RISE OF COBRA and gave Rachel Nichols her chance to steal the show (her take on G.I.JOE’s Scarlet is trully awesome I think)… So now what?
Creature from the Black Laggon, When Worlds Collide, Tarzan or G.I.JOE 2… either way, it’ll be a Sommers’ flick, and that my friend, means “MORE IS MORE”… more action, more CG, more laughs, more family fun (unlike Michael Bay and his sick sense of humor)… so bring it on and God bless you Mr Sommers !

  15. Fidel Molina says:

    Tarzan.
But please, don’t reinvent the character, simply read the Burroughs’ novels and see the full potential of the real Tarzan.
Forget previous Tarzans and make the authentic lord of the jungle.
We have never seen that Tarzan on screen before!
